Delta is adding daily flights from Atlanta and Saturday-only flights from Minneapolis-St. Paul, effective Dec. 21, 2013. The airline pulled out of Aspen in 2010, but taxpayer-funded incentives are being used to bring them back to nearby Aspen/Pitkin County Airport.
Aspen/Snowmass is one of the top skiing destinations in the world, offering more than 5,000 acres of snow-covered terrain as well as world-class lodging, dining, nightlife and arts, but its relatively remote location in southwestern Colorado depends upon convenient air service. With its new flights, Delta will be the only airline to offer daily nonstop service to Aspen/Snowmass from the Southeastern U.S., airline officials indicate. Combined with Saturday-only service from Minneapolis-St. Paul, the flights will provide connecting opportunities through two of the world’s largest hubs. Operated by Skywest, the routes will utilize a CRJ-700 aircraft.
