A few times. I'd rely on the other gateways like JFK, DTW, MSP, and the west coast, too. Don't limit yourself to ATL, since the hub travel tends to have more nonrevs. Check for Asian holidays. Is your destination Japan or onward? Rainy season Thailand, Golden Wk China are in October.
We usually go Oct to Thailand or Bali. We go end Oct to Thailand via NRT or SIN--whichever works. Do you fly S3B? If so, rely on other gateway cities as you can--don't forget SEA and PDX.
