Nonrevs asked to be at gate 35 minutes before departure
    November 5, 2013

As part of Delta’s continued focus on maintaining its industry-leading completion factor and on-time performance metrics, the pass travel team is offering tips on how employees can help gate agents process passengers faster and more efficiently and improve their chances of boarding a flight.

To assist gate agents with the boarding process, employees are now asked to be in the gate area at least 35 minutes prior to departure for domestic flights and 50 minutes for international flights. While the minimum time was previously 15 minutes, arriving 35 minutes prior to departure will assist gate agents, flight attendants and pilots with their continued focus on D0.

Gate agents follow a process called the “Countdown to Departure” to ensure customers – including nonrevs – and their carry-on items are accommodated on the flight in the proper order. Cooperation with gate agents and flight attendants from employees by following the time guidelines and accepting seat assignments helps put gate agents in a favorable position to hit critical points on the countdown to get a flight out on time.

Employees are encouraged to be considerate of other nonrevenue passengers by listing only for flights they intend to travel on. Nonrevs should avoid listing on multiple flights in the same market on the same day. Using online check-in when possible and only checking in for one flight from an originating city are also helpful to fellow nonrevs.

Nonrev travelers are always encouraged to have a back-up plan ready. If asked to split up when traveling with other nonrevs, be prepared with a plan of who will go and who will stay. Check the Other Airline page for details on eZED agreements with other carriers if Delta flights are not an option. Tickets for travel on most airlines can be purchased 24/7 on TravelNet from any computer with Internet access. The Delta Perks site offers employees hotel discounts for planned and unplanned overnight stays.
