Default MSP to BKK in June Advice

    Hello,

I want to fly on a buddy pass from MSP to BKK in early June. Has anyone had any experience with this flight during this time? What are some alternate routes?

Im planning on returning late August - early September. Will this be tough on a buddy pass?

    Thanks!

I assume this is for Delta?

For what it's worth, you can check Wikipedia to look up just about any airport. From there, there is an "Airlines and Destinations" section, and you can see which airlines fly from there and to which airport. That should help for alternate routing, just watch out for some "one-stop" direct flights that show up.

Gee, that's not exactly a polite name--sure seems to show your appreciation of the airline you plan to fly. As well as respect for the employee and those of us who might be assisting you. Yeah, I can give ya some advice, if you wanna reciprocate courtesy, dude. I have been sending buddy pass riders to Thailand for a few years (in fact, some just returned this week) and I have alot of experience. If any one of them had your attitude, they would no longer be on our passes. Your behavior can have a direct effect on your employee. Be mindful--they can lose their jobs if you're not respectful and courteous.
Maybe you want to try again.

"DropkickDelta" is just my go to username for any messageboard or anything that needs me to have a online presence. I wouldn't read that far into it. In the past I used to register as just "Dropkick" but sometimes that name was taken and I would use "DropkickDelta." It just as easily could have been "DropkickOmega" or "DropkickAlpha."

Delta is my preferred airline and i have nothing but much love and respect for my friend and the employees that work there. I'm actually applying for a position with Delta myself after this trip.

Sorry to come off on the wrong foot, I hope i didn't offend you or any of the other Delta employees on here. I would love to hear your advice.

In several countries, that term is derogatory as a noun. Aside from the soccer or football connotations, not a good use of it as a verb in respect to a company, a name, etc.
    Ok--apology accepted--let's move on, ok?
Do you have enough funds to sit around for a few days to fly either way? (return is always worse)
Check Delta.com route maps and look at BP options, starting w/BKK. It will show all the routes (gateways) for connecting. HKG will be new this summer. Be prepared to pay for low cost carrier to get from HKG or SIN, or connecting between ICN or HND and NRT to fly to NRT. When flts look crappy to get to NRT, try HND (SEA or LAX). Weird flight times HND vs NRT. Get sources for airbnb, homeaway, couchsurfing (if that's your thing) for Tokyo--hotels are $$ .
What's your age range and are you a backpacker? My nephew is still in Thailand and traveling solo. He flew to CHile and biked all over SA for months--twice. Now he's taking on SE Asia.
Only do carry-on--you might have an advantage for LCCs to get around between cities like SIN and HKG. Laundry is super cheap in Asia.
Check all the visas you might need before you go to airport.
Don't do your ticket until last minute--changes can cost etxra.
Take a look at Asia Travel Forums--
Asia Travel Forums - Travel Forum (expats)
    travelfish
    tripadvisor (those folks rock!)
Also, look at maninseat61.com website for train info--priceless!

Now, ask more qs and maybe we can get answers for you.
    Cheers!

Also look at the back door route BKK to SYD (Sydney Au) on a revenue ticket and then passes SYD-LAX-MSP.
Be prepared to spend a couple days at each and every airport.
You might consider this route outbound ?

Point me in the right direction and i'll gladly change my username!

I do, i'm hoping to avoid this but i understand it's the reality of the situation. In the past on buddy passes I used to just stay overnight at the airport.

Sounds like I have my research cut out for me. The flight over doesnt sound too bad but the flight back looks like it will be difficult. Thanks for all the possibly ways, it's good to know i have options.

I'm a 23 year old backpacker. Your nephew is very lucky, any essential need to know tips i couldn't find off a web search Thailand wise?

I will just do a carry one and buy most of my supplies, clothes, etc over there.

Only question i have is: Is there a way to view flight availability and cost of buddy passes for various flights? Sounds like i'm going to have to get a lot of moving parts to all come together and the conventional way of just having my friend look at it will be too confusing.

Thanks for all the information and tips, i really appreciate it!

You can decide to change your name--just send PM to moderator.
I'd take only what few clothes you need in carry-on. Unless you're a weird size--like super tall (like my family). Stuff is really cheap over there. Those websites have so much info. I've used them for years and I'm in my late 50's. Cant' get seat info except thru here or you employee (see how much you need us?? hehe) Ck sleepinginairports.com for more. The seat61 train info and tripadvisor will be your best buddies. Send me a PM and I'll ask my 35 yo nephew what he recommends. More specific ? and we'll give up the goods!! Take care.

If you want to change your username, PM me (or post here) - I have the ability to change it. That said, I'm honestly not offended (then again, I'm not a DL employee, but I'd feel the same way about DropkickUnited) given the context. I keep my username about the same on other boards, too. What about something a little more "neutral" like "DropkickNonrev" - would that work?
