Default UP8 Priority on International UG Lists

    Hello,

A number of international routes that I've flown this summer have had UP8's listed. Anyone have any idea what this code represents? It appears to be a complementary upgrade to Delta One for a revenue passenger but I find that odd since no upgrade instrument isn't required. Even frequent flyers, DM and MM aren't provided comp upgrades unless an oversell situation. This code is above all NRSA travel including PSUP.

Just thought I would ask as it's stumped a number of others.

From the Delta Standby Codes chart:

UP8 - PASSENGER CONFIRMED ON ECERT TKT IN MAIN CABIN - AUTHORIZED FOR COMPLIMENTARY UPGRADE TO FIRST OR DELTA ONE/BUSINESS PER DL TRAVEL AGREEMENT

Looking at a file copy I had the UP8 is a new code it was not there before. The clue to the Upgrade is: "PASSENGER CONFIRMED ON ECERT TKT IN MAIN CABIN" !

When aviation started you had First Class - F on jets - A on props - Coach - Y on jets - T - props next came the YE30 excursion fares followed by military standby youth fares
senior fares and the dam busted loose with all these unique fare based on who knows what parameters.

For an explanation of an ECERT go to the Delta.com website and in the SEARCH BOX put in ECERTS and you will be provided with that explanation.
Basically a passenger holds a credit/payment form of a ticket authorizing the upgrade but is NOT based on frequent flyer Medallion status.
Frequent flyer status allows upgrades only on domestic travel not international segments but ECERTS do.

So traveling internationally beware the UP8 category - one less seat for non-revs in the Business First Delta One cabin.

That's good info to know. Of course, any rev outranks any PSUP nonrev. I'll def be on the lookout for the UP8.
"and the dam busted loose with all these unique fare based on who knows what parameters" had to be created to replace the other stuff like youth/senior, etc. Kinda like the Fed--get rid of one stupid regulation and replace it with 2 'stupider' ones...

    PER DL TRAVEL AGREEMENT

I'd speculate that it relates to specific Corporate Agreements. There are some items in the large corporate agreements that would make your head spin.

I was just told that the list is down to 45 as a result of the changes to D1 Upgrades on SFO/LAX-JFK. UP2X is no longer needed and has been dropped. Should really have no effect on nonrevs since there won't be any empty D1 seats with PM's now able to use RUC's on the route.
