Myself & a friend are flying to Prague for 2 weeks, but want to do a bit of touring around Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, and maybe even Croatia, Yugoslavia, etc.

We got confirmed flights from the UK for £41 rtn, and plan on taking trains overnight between places to keep the accommodation costs down.
Has anyone ever taken a similar trip to this who can share their experiences with us?

Also, are there any out-of-the-way places in Eastern Europe that are worth exploring?

Any help would be much appreciated.......

I went there a few years ago with a friend. We only had a week, spent about 5 days outside Prague and a few days in. We absolutely loved Cesky Krumlov. Czech people were very friendly (particularly outside the touristy areas) and very helpful. We took trains, buses, etc. everywhere, very cheap. The timetables are rather confusing but that was when we relied on asking people who were helpful when they could be. Beer is cheap and good, the rest of the local types of food is mostly starchy, cheese, or pork (in my experience). We went in July, Prague is EXTREMELY busy/crowded. It was no less crowded than the main attractions in London at that time. There are lots of things worth seeing there, my favorites were the main castle, the Jewish Cemetery, and a church (St. Nikolas?) with amazing frescoes. Go first thing in the morning to any tourist attraction in Prague (far less crowded), you'll be glad you did. I wished I would have stayed longer and spent more time in the country towns, the overall feeling is relaxed, friendly, and a real cultural experience. Accomodations in small towns were quite cheap, far more expensive in Prague. I hear Slovakia is very much like that as well.
