    Hello,

My partner and I are planning a trip to London in April or May. We've heard this is a good time to go, since the weather there will be ok, and nonrev'ing there/back shouldn't be too bad.

Right now, my questions are more concerning the flights (although if anyone wants to volunteer info on what to do/where to stay, I'd gladly accept). We're looking at these options for flights:

    1. BA: PHX-LHR. BA has 1 daily nonstop (except Wed). Anyone know what the chances of nonrev'ing on that are? Any days better/worse than others? BA is a ZED-High partner with HP, it would be about $83 each, each way, plus taxes.

    2. JFK-LHR/LGW: can fly my own airline free to the US East coast, then take AA, VS, or BA from there. AA and VS are both ZED-Med partners, cost about $50 each, each way.

    3. LAX-LHR: HP has many daily flights to LAX, it is just an hour, both AA and VS do 2 nonstops LAX-LHR, and the VS terminal is next to HP's. Cost is about $63 each, each way. It seems a little counter going West for the flight, but the way I see it, I'd rather get on the long thing to begin with, get there...the first day will pretty much be a waste anyway, arrive, find hotel, eat, sleep.

Anyway, I'd appreciate any thoughts anyone has on these options. What I'm looking for are days of the week to avoid, if there are any major events goign on to avoid, etc. We're just beginning the trip planning, and I'm open to all ideas.

I see that the Queen's birthday is 21 Apr, and of course May Day is 1 May. Are these large events that would cause museums and other tourist attractions to be closed? Would flights be especially crowded/empty because of them? Again, just from a planning perspective.

Hopefully the US$ won't go down much more, versus the Euro and Pound. If it does, we'd think of going to New Zealand instead.

    Thanks.

    Hi there,

I would have a back-up plan if you choose to go with the one daily nonstop. That is a little risky.

My friend non-reved to Ireland, unknown that there was an Irish holiday on her return, she was stuck in Ireland for three days. Just like the USA, give us a holiday and the flights are booked high.

Just be flexible and give yourself a couple or bumper days.

    Hi Tim
From a sunny southern California perspective, (however it is pouring rain at the moment ), London weather is always cold and wet.
Personally I like visiting London in March/April, attractions aren't too crowded and the hotels are still offering off-season rates, something to consider with the dollar's decline; mid-week flights are the better way to go. As far as a route, I've always flown out of LAX (always made it, always got first ) however with my D3's I usually go with the odds and route them through JFK, six chances are better than two.
You might want to drop a line to Paul the United Kingdom correspondent for info on events and holidays.
I'm off to find an umbrella!
