    Hey!
Since my girlfriend studies in Australia and I live in Norway, I been “down under” 5 times during the 2 last years. But I have been avoiding the very nice Austrian Airline flight from Sydney to Vienna on my homebound flights. This due to the flights stop in Kuala Lumpur, and the relative pore “backup options” out of there. (My only good backup is BKK, and that airport is overcrowded with employees trying to get home to Europe)
My question (Any OS staff here?):
Is KUL as crowded with OS staff, as BKK is with SAS staff? (Even if the SAS flights from BKK are heavy overbooked, there are often as many as 50 staffs on Stand By…) Or are there usually some available seats, after all OS staffs have been accepted? (Assume a reasonable number of seats available for sale in Amadeus)

    Take care,

    Vegar from Norway

    PS!
After 2 flights on the OS B777 bound for Sydney I can recommend Austrian Airline!

    @Vegar

KUL is a great non-rev airport. Off the beaten path for most interliners who shoot for SIN or BKK.

Don't know the staff compliment for Austrian there, but I had no trouble with either MH or CX recently.

    Good luck!

    Hei Vegar,
I'm guessing for the handle that you are up in Trondheim.
Just for info I am sure that I have recently seen a post from an OS staff member who recently joined as a new member but I can't for the life of me remember their ID or find their post.

    hi vegar
if you avoid peakseason for austriala its rather a good opinion to go with os via kul. not many non revs there and no weight problems. if you don't make it on the os flight there are good options to go to europe with MH. i have heard from many collegues that they fly with air asia from bkk to kul to avoid the crowds in bkk.

    Thanks!
Then I might take my chances with OS, next time I am in Australia. (Probably in Sept/Oct)
MH is an option back to Europe. But our agreement with them is extremely expensive. (KUL – MH – VIE aprox USD 500. KUL – OS – VIE aprox USD 70… Norway – Australia t/r with Star Alliance carrier’s aprox USD 300…)

    Thanks again!

Agreed with the general consensus, KUL is an excellent port for nonrev travel. No problem at all last week with MH ex SYD or KUL. Both OS/MH are now ZED carriers so same ticket valid on both just in case I got into trouble.. although the OS departure at 0515 is a bit daunting for those of us boarding in KUL-SYD
