We are planning our first trip to Italy. Should we reserve a car from the US or wait until we get there. There seems to be about $300. difference in price (Italy is cheaper) but we don't know if it includes unlimited milage. We have checked with Advantage Rent a car. They are the only ones with a full size van. There are 6 of us going.

    Hi there,
A couple of questions for your consideration:
    a) have you driven in Italy before ?? cos they are manic drivers !! Have you checked if the train will do the job??
    b) where are you intending to travel .. remember that a lot of the small towns in Europe have very small and narrow roads and you may be better off with 2 ( smaller ) cars rather than one large minivan. It might be less social but more practical.
    c) always hire ahead of arrival ( I'm not saying pre-pay .. you can still pay in local ) as you will often not get your airline discount if you ask for walk in rates.

After our visit to Italy we will be leaving out of Roam. I need a reference for a hotel near the Roam airport. It doesn't have to be fabulous but clean and comfortable.

Also I would be intrested in a place in Venice.
There is 6 of us and we are staying only one night (and ofcourse hope to see everything.) Maybe it needs to be near St Marks Square.
Any other helpful info would be great. Thanks

FYI--you can park the vehicle but you can't drive it on Venice--they don't permit vehicles on the islands. All traffic is foot or water.
