Hoping to visit Edinburgh/Glasgow at some point this year (willing to fly into either/or), but having some issues figuring out my options.

    - any ideas on where the best chances would be to standby? AC doesn't fly to Scotland, just Heathrow. So I could go direct to LHR from YHZ, but then what are my options once I get there? Better to fly somewhere else in North America and try to get on a direct to Scotland?

    - Does anyone know of ANY Zed agreements that will accept partners? I apparently can't list my boyfriend as my spouse yet thanks to a not-yet-final divorce *grumble*.... so if we can't fly Zed, this trip might be toast before it starts.

Any other hints/tips would be greatly appreciated too. Thanks in advance non-revvers!

I'm not sure how you are defining a partner. Any of your eligible pass riders can fly on ZEDS. YOu may be able to register anyone as a companion (I don't know about AC) and they could fly on a ZED. I believe that this applies to most ZED agreements.

Be aware that it'll cost you about $150.00 each for departure taxes out of Great Britain. You might want to fly out to Ireland and then on to Canada or Europe to Canada. It might end up costing you the same, but you'll get another trip out of it.

I think this info is correct, but if anyone knows better, I'm all ears.

DL runs seasonal from JFK--everything else is AMS
Sad to say, meanandfive is right on--dep taxes are a killer!
First clarify the companion/pass rider issue and go from there.
They should have the streets of EDI back in order soon, after all the construction.

I had heard DL was completely out of EDI.
    Is that not true?
Wikipedia shows EDI as a terminated destination.

I would love to go there!

    That is a bummer...
EDI looks like a beautiful city.

I am bummed that Bucharest is no more also...

Yeah, it's odd that they don't have more service from North America eh? Flew out of LHR in 2008 and the dep taxes were deff brutal... However, I can also fly direct from YHZ (my home airport), which saves me the cost of having to travel to LGA/YYZ/YUL etc... which tacks on about $100 to my round trip. So to me I guess it's 6 of one, half dozen of the other....

The whole pass conundrum is this: the AC pass bureau has deactivated my spouse... so he can't travel. However, he's still listed as a "spouse" due to the non-divorced status. As a result, I'm unable to add anyone as a "companion".

So, whenever my boyfriend and I travel together, he's technically on a form of buddy pass (although with AC our buddy passes can only be used when you are actually flying WITH the employee... I can't give them out to people). And most Zed agreements (from what I've read anyway) prohibit any form of partner travel unless it's a spouse/companion you're traveling with.

    Does that make sense now?

I think I may have to break down and buy a confirmed air seat on EasyJet/Ryanair etc to get from LHR-EDI. Or, just take the train. It's only a 4 hour train ride from LHR... I am a non-adventurous non-revver I guess LOL.

    Hi,
As you are with Air Canada and part of the Star Alliance I'd suggest that you check out your options of connecting with LH via FRA or MUC to GLA or EDI. That way you'll only have to pay the European rate of APD out of the UK and also the Airport service charge at EDI/GLA is half the rip-off amount they charge for Heathrow.
