    Default London

Planning on my first trip to London in October, three or 4 days. I know about the hefty departure fees out of LHR. This trip is a long time coming and I'm willing to splurge a bit.

I need recommendations on hotels or B&B's.

I am not a hostel kind of gal, nice digs please.

The Notting Hill/Kensington area appeals to me but I'm open to suggestions because it is my first time.

I like a good breakfast and access to wifi.

Any suggestions on digs or London in general would be greatly appreciated.

I plan on, the London eye, changing of the guard, Tower of London, Tate Modern, and of course a play.

This subject has been discussed--see if you can find the hotel info previously posted in the destinations . BTW--LGW has lower departure fees...Have a great time!

I did search the forum for London before posting but did not find anything recent except for flight info and a recommendation for a cheap hotel.

There is plenty of info on the web and in guidebooks but I enjoy getting advice from fellow non-revs.

You could try checking out the travelodge.co.uk and premierinn.co.uk chains as they should be starting their autumn promotions by now. Hotel prices drop quickly the further outside Central London you are and provided you choose a hotel close to an underground station getting into Central London is easy and inexpensive ( search for Oyster card ). Check out lastminute.com as they often have attractive theatre deals depending upon what you want to see.
You can check out the London Pass ( londonpass.com ) to see if it covers what you want to see and if it is better value than paying for things individually.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn -Victoria Station, but it has been a few years, so you might want to check some recent reviews. It does have a great location, walked to Buckingham Palace, London Eye etc.
    The London Pass is great
You might also check out Discount theatre tickets | tkts for discount theater tickets, there’s also a booth in Leicester Square.
I recommend doing the hop-on-hop off sightseeing bus and having a beer and sausage sandwich at Harp’s pub (Covent Garden) You have to visit a pub. *wink*
Oh and don’t forget to stop in at a few of London’s churches, they usually have famous people buried in the basement. ( I know but I couldn’t resist)
    I'll get my hat.

    Have fun

don't forget the Delta discounts on Accor hotels--thru employee connection tab
If you take the Original hop on/Off red bus, save the ticket and get discount other cities.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn- Kensington (first time around) and The Hilton London Metropole - second time around (both were in great locations). Both times I visited London was in low season so hotels were affordable (considering it is London we are talking about). London is one of my fav cities in the world- plenty to do and lots of culture. Make sure you do one of the many London walks. I did a London pub crawl, the Jack the ripper walk and a gaslight tour? All were very interesting . Gatwick is cheaper to fly out of, but Heathrow in my opinion is more convenient as you can take the tube into and out of London. If you enjoy Indian/Pakistani food, you wil lbe in heaven. My fave Indian restaurant in London is Woodlands in Marylebone Lane, it is South Indian cuisine (hence it is a vegertarian restaurant).

    Regards,
