I find that some properties will offer a small discount to travel industry if you email them directly. Def look at VRBO, and homeaway. Keep looking at recomendations at tripadvisor (once you throw out top and bottom reviews and sort by author's interests)..

I love this site/app and have checked it out along with VRBO and other sites, such as RentalsinRome. I'd hoped for personal recommendations. Oh well.
