    Hello.

I'm currently at University, and I have a 3.75month break coming up in about a fornight.

I was wondering if anyone here knows if any of the airline offices hire casuals or part timers.

I have summer availability, and during the rest of the year 2 or 3 days a week.

I'm looking at some graduate programs with different airlines for when i finish my course and I was thinking that it may be beneficial to try for some work in a customer service/sales office of an airline.

I was kind of hoping that someone here could offer me some info on what airlines are looking for in workers at these offices.

I am currently employed casually in a customer service role in retail.

I am able to operate an office phone system.
I can type, use spreadsheets, databases, etc.

I pick up any computer based applications very quickly.

That’s about it at the moment, I’m not exactly sure what other skills they may be looking for.

I can deal with customers professionally too, (and oh god I’ve had some problematic ones)

Is anyone here able to offer any more hints or guides?

I'd love to get some experience so that I have a better shot into one of the competitive graduate programs.

    - Dave.

I don't know about other airlines, but for my own, it takes a lot of training to know your job. Besides the 2 week training at headquarters, it takes another 6-9 months of on the job experience to really understand the job and to be able to handle every situation.

    My company only hires full-time.

I would say that the companies who would hire are looking for someone with your qualifications HOWEVER they may require a specific schedule and that schedule is - like everything else in the airline industry - scwn (subject to change without notice). If you can't meet those conditions, you might not want to apply for an airline job right now. Your days/times of work can and do change frequently and I don't know of any airline that hires seasonally except Alaska with summer baggage handlers in Juneau.

I guess i could just try for work with the local travel agent. They are always after part time people to work from the stores or from home.

All i would need is a 3 day training course. However I may pass as i was specificaly interested in something in an airline, which may help in the future with some graduate programs.

    Thanks for your comments
