A friend of mine who retired after many years at Delta has offered to give me some Buddy passes. He apparently has not given these away before so I want to get the answers and not make it a bother to him.

    1. His date of hire is soon and he expects to get more after that date but is not sure they still have the program for retirees. Anyone know.

    2. I live in Atlanta where Delta has many flights a day to most destinations. How risky would it be to plan on going to LGA on a Sat afternoon? There are flights almost every hour. Or how about to CVG on a Friday where there are 5 flights direct and another 5 with changes. (I have flown a lot in the past and I can't remember many flights that were absolutely filled).

    3. Why does Delta want me to give them dates of travel when the pass is purchased when it is a standby ticket? Is there any problem making changes?

    4. Is there anything else I should know?

    Thanks in advance

Hope this has not been covered before. I tired to find out before I posted.

    1. DL retirees will always get those buddy passes.

    2. Sat afternoon service to LGA is not that hectic as a Friday. Traveling to CVG on a Friday will be sort of complicated. Too many businessmen returning home from work. Keep in mind CVG is one of DL's HUB.

    3. DL NEED a tentative traveling date even though these are standby tickets because DL CANNOT issue an open ticket. You can change the date at your leisure but if you change destination a $25 fee will be assessed plus the fare difference.

    4. Try DL's Simplyfares. Sometimes you are better off buying those CONFIRMED and avoid the hazzle of going standby.

My opinions are based on my experience, and I can tell you I have a lot, over 29 years.
