Recently, USAirways sent letters stating that employees must verify dependent status. They gave a "grace" period to repay health benefits if you cannot prove that you provide fifty percent or more of the child's income. They will prosecute those who cannot provide this verification. This means that a minor living with the former spouse cannot be claimed on their (ex-spouse) income tax. However, children of same-sex partners who live with the employee ARE eligible. Has anyone dealt with this yet? Does anyone know another company that does this? Has anyone contacted an attorney????
