    Hello, fellow Nonrev-ers,

I'm conducting an informal survey to see if other airlines charge their own staff a service charge to refund unused ID or ZED tickets.

The carrier I work for (MH) is discussing slapping a USD25.00 service charge for its own staff as well OAL staff. Is this a common practice?

I'm curious to know other airlines' policy regarding this.

    Thanks!

Not sure if it's common but mine charges $15 dollars.

BA do not charge and actively encourage you to take all the backups you might need stating that they can always be refunded.
I do not think that MH can charge other carriers as the tickets are issued on the other carriers paper and MH will have no knowledge of them unless they are used. The only way MH can charge other carrier staff is if the tickets are issued on MH paper ( via IATA 788 or other interline process ).

Wow, you might get charged to refund your tickets? AS doesn't charge anything to refund unused coupons. We can refund even partially used round trips since each coupon is refunded individually so if I buy a round trip and only use one way I can get the balance back. I would not be happy if they started charging me to refund the tickets since I consider it a perk I get in exchange for making less money and working ever changing hours!

    Thanks for your replies.

Just to clarify, MH would charge OAL staff/travel agents for a refund on AD/ID/zed tickets issued on MH ticket stock.

Yes, it's quite unfortunate that the company is nickel-and-diming us even if the company is not doing so great. Like you said Britski99, we *should* have back-ups and not be penalized for it.

We'll be circulating a petition to protest this.

    Thanks again.

I think when they do a charge back there is a fee hence the service fee.

On a related note, is the cost of your ID tickets immediately debited from your bank account or is there a time lapse between ticket issue and payment. I know of one company, SK, where tickets are paid for approx three months after issue. So unused coupons, such as back- ups are returned with no cash transaction taking place. Very wallet-friendly procedure I find. With my company you pay immediately for the tickets, but then there's a wait of sometimes up to six weeks for the refund. Which at least is still 100%. Until some brilliant cost cutting accountant finds out about the MH refund fee. Maybe the same one who decided a year ago to slap a 4 euro service charge on all ID tickets.
