Well no, not exactly the rest of the story. This particular puppy has three legs, like the Isle of Man. America West picks up US Airways. The combined entity then picks up Delta and becomes the new Delta. And then the new Delta picks up the shattered pieces of Northwest when it disintegrates in 2007. Stay tuned.

Well, I thought Doug Parker was an idiot when he picked up US Airways. It seems he's proved me the fool. The merger seems to be going fairly well. I think the final verdict is still out but if the preliminary polls are indicative, it'll be a win.

So, since Doug seems to be smarter than I, I'll just keep my mouth shut about his latest venture and let him go about doing what he does best.

.... Was under the impression it was a ' planned ' take over bid and a hostile one at that. Didn't think that DL/US were compatible network and aircraft wise, with the addition of such strong unions compared to the UK, a combined staff seniority of unimaginable proportions ..... I wish them the best of luck !

Well Paul, I have a little different perspective:
    US: ID90
HP: ZED-like flat svc chg regardless of destination.
DL: ZED-like flat svc chg, one for domestic, one for international.

If it were up to me I'd combine the DL & HP agreements.

I'm hoping it will fall through. I think we (DL) can emerge as a stand alone carrier. I don't want to move to Arizona. Our international expansion is going well. I think all of the wide bodies that we have with intl capability is their main motivation. I think we have over a hundred and theirs are in the teens.

DL came out with their rebuttals and plans to emerge as a stand alone carrier. It makes good sense to me.

If you oppose the merger, you can also find information and fill out the petition at
