Looking for some solid info on ZED fares and ID90s. First off, what is the difference between the two, I know some airlines do ZED fares and some do ID90s. I've heard ZED fares are better, but why? Secondly, If I have travel benefits on US Airways and my girlfriend is a registered guest, would she be able to get ZED fares also? Trying to figure a way for both of us to get to Asia cheaply, and since Airways dosnt serve any asian destinations, I was thinking about a ZED fare. Thanks in advance for the info!

The main difference is that ZED fares are based upon mileage and not a percentage of the 'commercial' fare and so are generally cheaper.
To find more on ZEDs use the FIND search function on the Forum and look for ZED and then read the selected articles.

mate, usually star carriers will give you the ZL rather than ZM and H which is the cheapest. But with guest you will have to check with the individual carriers if you are able to take/buy a ticket for your companion.

Hi, the biggest difference I find with the ZED fares vs the ID 90 fare is the flexability. For example, if I want to go from BWI to NAS I would purchase an ID90 fare on Delta. If all their flights were full on the day of travel, I would have to purchase another ticket on AA or US. Now I have 2 tickets to NAS (out double the money) until I turn my unused Delta ticket into my airlines for re-imbursement.

Now if I have a ZED ticket: if I am unable to get on the Delta flight, I can take that same ticket to any other airline that offer ZED fares just as long as the routing is the same ie if I purchased a non-stop, they generally want you to fly non-stop. I always have my airline book a connecting such as BWI-ATL-NAS so that I would have no trouble presenting to AA for a routing of BWI-MIA-NAS or US BWI-CLT-NAS. I love the ZED fares in that it is much easier.

As for your registered partner, I think that you will have to check with your airline.

ZED are great as long as you have a ticket from point A to point B on one airline the other ZED carrier will accept it.
ATTENTION, it is point to point you will need a coupon for each segment.
The routing can be changed sometimes if it is the some mileage zone but the gates agent can refuse it because of taxes recalculation.

ZED is not necessarily point-to-point, this depends on the transporting carrier's requirements. Some airlines require pricing against each non-stop (point-to-point), others allow pricing against the O&D but require a coupon for each nonstop. Others allow pricing and ticketing against the O&D.

Z is correct that the decision to accept the ticket is up to the agent, but ZED rules generally provide that it be accepted as long as 1) the employing carrier has a ZED agreement with the new transporting carrier, 2) the fare paid is equal to or higher than the new applicable fare, and 3) the taxes collected on the ticket are the same for the new routing.
