I just found this site and am really hoping for some good advice from all you savvy travelers. We are heading for Europe for the first time, to get on a 12 night Mediterranean cruise out of Civitavecchia (Rome) and are overwhelmed by all the possible routes we can take. The date is late August, so of course we're hoping everything will work out. Any suggestions which routes are less crowded leaving from DFW, so we'll have the best chance for first class? We are totally flexible on when we can leave and return. Right now return flights look great, but going is starting to look scary in coach class. Is there a site where we can look at load factors on participating airlines other than our own?

The mythilogical website we all seek, unfortunately, does not exist. However, many people on here are more than happy to check loads for you for particular flights on their own airline. There's a member from alot of major airlines, even some that work for regionals .

    Enjoy your cruise.

Just curious, you're a retired pilot, and you've never been to europe???

DFX-AMS-FCO with KLM is one of your options, KLM has a daily DFW-AMS flight and several AMS-FCO flights a day.
If you need more info just le me know.

Thanks for your responses. I'm actually the pilot's wife, and, yes, he has flown to Europe many times which may explain why he never wanted to go there for vacation. Notice we are going to get on a ship, meaning our time on land can be very short. He's just not a great fan of Europe, but I talked him into visiting this way.

That's why I'm trying hard to plan ahead and make the non-rev travel as painless as possible. After registering here I read through a lot of the comments and found some good insights. As we all know, the trick to successful non-revving is tedious planning of possible alternate routes and being as flexible as Pokey and Gumby. We've had great experiences through many years going to many places, but never to Europe.

I was just looking for some of you who have passed that way and hoping you'd share what you've learned.

I'd assume AA would be your first choice. As a backup, AA and DL have ZED with eachother. DL has daily nonstops ATL-FCO, JFK-FCO, CVG-FCO, plus, a few times a week we have JFK-VCE and JFK-PSA.

Plus we have flights to a large number of cities in Europe, that you could connect with AZ(if they're still around then) or whoever.

Whatever options you decide on, just post a topic in the checking loads forum, or for DL PM me. People usually respond quickly and quite helpfully.

You might want to check out expertflyer.com It costs about $5/month, but it shows availability status on most airlines.
