Personally, I'd suggest considering a flight to a small town that has easy and frequent flights for your first time. If nothing else, don't make it anything too extravagant. Otherwise, when I was at NW, Canada had the best taxes among all the limited options we had for international flights (about $20 on return, and I think that somehow it was cheaper on DL).
