Forty years ago (January, 1970) "the first jumbo jet carrying farepaying passengers arrived at XXX airport".
What airline?
What was it's flight route?
How quickly we forget.

Now Nick, what are you going to do with an airplane window? What you need are seats, so your guests can sit down. http://cgi.ebay.ca/Airplane-Airline-Aircra...=item2304ee9fe7
Some great info on the 747 - Flightglobal/747@40

Ah JFK LHR. I thought IAD just didn't "feel" right. I read an EXCELLENT book on Pan Am from the account of one of their flight attendants. I leant the book to someone, and can't remember who it was nor the books name to find it online.
The book really moved me, it had stories of how this FA swapped Scotch for Caviar in Iran, how he relieved an FA of duty on a flight cause she was drunk and the next week she was found dead on her door stoop in JFK frozen to death the vodka bottle in hand, and also the rise of the jet age where he asked a young man to put his shoes on and the man said "oh gee sir I would but I didn't bring any".
The window would go straight on my wall with a plaque underneath outlining the Clipper name, N number, miles flown, first and last flight etc.
As for the chairs... awesome! When I lived in DAL my landlord had a set of WN seats in his garage - that was cool. Although I would have installed them in my house somewhere for show

That JUMBO JET is definately a work horse. I love those planes and all non-revs should be happy to attempt boarding those because they hold BUCOO pax and your chances of getting on are pretty good. And yes, I remember when the JUMBO JET first came on the scene. Just a kid then. I don't recall how many times I have flown in those planes, but I do know that I have flown them often from GUM-NRT-DTW and ORD. I think the first time I ever flown upstairs on a jumbo jet was a flight from DET-NAGOYA. All on NORTHWEST PLANES. We had a jumbo jet, in fact, don't know if we still do or not, but I have seen it out on the islands a long time ago. Maybe 12-13 years ago. I think its long gone. We went for the B-777's and B-767's for those long hauls..
I remember flying an AA-747 in the early 80's. I pestered the FA to let me sneak up the stairs so I could peek at the first class lounge...it had a piano bar. By the time I came down, I had missed the desert cart; yeah image that, a desert cart in coach.
