Default Plan to Non Rev to St. Louis- Day trip possible?

I am planning a non-rev day trip to St. Louis Missouri to eat some of their world famous ribs.

A few questions for those who know:

What is the least expensive safest way to get downtown from the airport?

    How long is that trip?

Are the good, inexpensive restaurants located downtown?
    What are the names?
What else is there to do in St Louis in a day or overnight trip?

The light rail from the airport is perfect!

Union Station shops and restaurants are pretty cool............

I think the safety issue in St. Louis is largely in East St. Louis, IL (just across the river). Obviously, you should always watch yourself, but I think that it's pretty rare for stretches of public transportation between a downtown area and an airport to be *that* bad, at least in the US.

When I was living in the states I put off going to STL as I was worried about safety. I eventually went and found it perfectly fine, the light rail takes you right downtown.

The arch is OK, get there early if you want to go inside and view as it sells out. Same with the Busch brewery... I've been to STL 4 times and still haven't been in the arch or the brewery as always sold out.

As for what else to do... there didn't seem to be much. Take a paddle boat along the Mississippi?

There is a great restaurant I went to with a friend in St Charles called Mother-In-Law Restaurant Greater St. Charles Convention & Visitors Bureau - a little pricey but quite good. The trailhead brewery is good too. I would have liked to have spent longer in historic St Charles, it's worth a visit (but think you'd need a car)

I recommend the Crown Candy Kitchen and City Museum also.

I have yet to go up the arch but hope to someday!

Thanks all................ sorry for the late response, but I have been pretty busy.
I will take the rail to downtown and check out a couple of the restaurants mentioned
