    Default Returning to Work and getting ready to Nonrev

    I was furloughed from CO 2 years ago. They told us that they would never bring us back. I applied for a couple of positions at Delta but did not get picked up. Then in April I received a cal from CO saying that they wanted to bring me back on a temporary basis. I was about to go but changed my mind at the last minute. I received another letter saying that I needed to return to work on 8/30 or I would forfeit my right to return to work. As much as I love the airline biz and flight benefits, the pay sucks. However, I have decided to return to work to travel again.

    My wife has already planned a shopping trip to HNL the first week I am back. We are also planning on meeting family in SEA at the end of September. I am visiting my grandparents in Hawaii in November, and next spring we are taking the kids to Berlin and then stopping in Switzerland and Italy on the way home. We hope to do this by rental car but will fly if it is significantly cheaper. Also in the next few months I would like to travel to HKG and have a suit or two custom tailored

    I have been reading the forum all morning and it is great to catch up with what everyone is doing.

    Good to see you again even tho your'e in the clutches of a shopping spouse!! That takes out half the $$joy of nonrev, doesn't it? Throw in some family members and you're sunk!
    Sorry DL couldn't get you in our family--great bennies.

    I can help with some HKG stuff for tourism--not suits! We spent 9 nts in Jan/Feb and will be connecting again for Bali in Oct.
    Cheers!!

    Good to talk to you again.

    When we were first married we had a joint bank account and were both always spending too much. These days my wife is frugal and we have separate bank accounts. She does whatever she wants with her money, which means I do whatever I want with mine. I honestly don't care what she buys because she doesn't give me grief anymore for what I buy.

    I actually kind of like that she knows where to shop for things. We are about out of the real vanilla from Mexico. That ought to give us a reason to spend a couple of nights in Mexico. Now my mind is stuck on food. Switzerland or Germany for Chocolate, Hawaii for Manapua, or some barbecue in Texas. Man I miss nonrevving. One of my favorite short trips is to fly to Vegas for dinner at the Rio. Its only 45 minutes each way from SLC.

    When I get ready to go to HKG I will hit you up. My nonrevving trips are usually short and focused. We have 4 children ages 3-12. Its hard to be gone for long with the kids in school. I like to have a decent idea of what I am going to do once I get there, before I ever leave home.

    imon32red--that's funny about spending--we're sorta like that and I am OBSESSED with my travel food! We're headed to Bali for vanilla beans and spas and roast pork...and some culture. I make my own vanilla w/ky bourbon and vodka. For Christmas I make a few hundred vanilla bean marshmallows, so I have to set aside time in Dec to NOT nonrev during "production". Having recently lost both my parents, their legacy was a nice chunk of change for travel--being frugal, it's hard to splurge excessively. As much as I want to, I can't make myself book that $3000 Orient Express train in Thailand (well, not yet!)
    I think many of my HKG tips are on the forum here somewhere..
    happy travels!

    I love getting to know people in the different places we travel and the locals always know where to get the best food. My entire family is quite obsessed with food. When we travel internationally we always try to plan our trips around flying business class. One of the last international flights my wife took was SLC-CDG with my mother on your airline. She was really impressed with the food and brought home pictures. My CO and DL friends are always arguing over which carrier has the best food. Me and my wife think they are both about the same, it really depends on the dish. We are curious as to what the nonrev experience is going to be like on United now that the merger is pretty much done.

    As not to clog this thread with talk about milkshakes and Big Ben burgers - huevos divorciados and Monte Cristo egg rolls - wood-fired pizza and great seafood, plus 29Palms’ conversation with a beer bottle, ( he says the bottle called to him) *wink*;
    the posts dealing with food have been moved to their own thread.
