Default Priceline name your own price for rental cars- downside?

Does anyone know what the downside to Priceline's name your own price rental cars? I've used the hotel name your own price (with great success), but never the car. With hotels you choose a region and it places you in whatever hotel it wants to. I don't think it works that way for rental cars, anyone know?

Yes it does. Perfect example, rented a econ car in ABQ a year ago with the intention of having a Sentra/Corolla/Mitsu only for them to tell me that I was "upgraded" based on the Priceline fare. Gas was cheap at the time so I took a Jeep and went into Corralles and had fun.

I've used it without any problems and have been sent to Avis, Hertz, National & Alamo to pick up my car. Didn't get any upgrades but was happy to just get a cheap ride.

I've used it before as well. They only use the national chains, so you don't have to worry about getting Krap-E Rent-a-car (who takes your res for an SUV, but gives you a compact for you to attempt stuffing 500 pillows/blankets in and driving with them touching your ears.....THAT was a fun day!)

The only possible hitch you might have is in terminal/long shuttle ride as space can be tight at some airports, but I've never had any trouble w/ Priceline.

I have only used it once for a car, and got a convertible Mustang for $20 a day in OAK.

We may do Priceline this time for a car. We might need one for Austin, but even with the interline deals, the fees and taxes are insane. They charge a fee for "Austin events" (5%) plus 10% for this and 11% for that...a wildcard rental (compact or better) was $108, then add taxes/fees of $80...hardly worth it. Hoping the resort will provide transfers, since we aren't taking them up on free airfare.
