Default UA Buddy Pass Policy Change

United Airlines Puts Strict Limits on Buddy Pass Travel | SavvyStews.com

I wonder if Delta is contemplating similar? Hope not!
I certainly don't mind the idea of registering buddies. makes plenty of sense. Timing and accompaniment is extremely restrictive, IMHO. I have a friend at [now extinct] airline who got unused passes from other employees. He must have issued over 2 dozen a year (well over allowance) for family members. No complaints all around but I sure wouldn't monitor every one of those buddies with pleasure.

Yeah, and just a few months ago they started charging for checked bags equivalent to revenue customers. They do have an option to exchange your "regular" buddy passes for an enrolled friend (or an additional one, if you already have one instead of a spouse) and I'm really glad I took that option. Enrolled friends don't pay anything to fly directly, but the IRS does see that as a taxable benefit, so I have to collect (for example) $90 from my BIL if he flies MSN-DEN-MSN to account for the IRS withholdings. My father-in-law and brother can still use my "extended family" buddy passes, which come from the same pool. Plus, the darn things are so stupidly expensive now with the fare plus imputed income that it makes no sense.

Corporate has been crossing the country catching FT employees "selling" and such. LAS (14 fired), LAX (20), SEA (18), LGA (15). The UA buddy policy was prominently posted on our home page last week. FYI, Openings in most cities displayed above both ticket counter and ramp..
