How about SFO? Sure, they have some nice artisan places. But SFO is an expensive city, especially when you're in airports! The only thing they have that has remotely sensible prices is Burger King, and I remember even that being closed one time I was there. Otherwise, I'm stuck paying $6 for a bagel, or starving.
I do agree that HNL's selection does kind of suck, though I do remember a pretty good udon place there. But to their credit, I think most people arrive in the afternoon and would rather go elsewhere for food, or are taking a redeye flight to the mainland long enough after dinner time. I can see where they wouldn't have as much of a need for good food options.
