And..it's no secret that the mortality rate is 10-20x or more higher, than the flu...alarmingly so the older you are >50. Flu is .1%, this is 2%+..you got part of that right, if you average things out. (Bad math is not safe math)

It may be too early to panic, but..we could be 12-15mo away from a vaccine with something that will mutate and make a few rounds globally yet.

Per cdc.gov, it is impossible to get a percentage of people who actually die from the flu since they don't actually put "flu" as the cause of death on many certificates. They look at flu and flu related complications to get their numbers. The percentage that die changes yearly with the various types of flu. Based on the numbers provided by the CDC, the percentage of flu deaths is approx. 1-2% in the US on average (depending on the year. last year and the year before were fairly high but a few years ago it was very low) but, like COVID-19 so far, most are elderly or have underlying heath issues. They are spread in very similar ways per the CDC. That is why the CDC keeps stressing that the risk is very low to catch it and very low to die if you do catch it unless you are in a high risk group.

PS, the rest of the quote for how it spreads is "in some affected geographic areas." Still not worried about flying domestically right now. I fully expect that this will end up being everywhere in the next year or so, just like many other viruses. Hopefully some of the treatments they are getting ready to test will be effective and people will stop worrying so much. The fear is doing a lot of damage to our industry and that may continue for months.
