    Default 9/11 Jetway Tributes

    9/11 Jetway Tributes

As you know there are many 9/11 memorials around the world, but you may not be aware of this subtle tribute at three airports here in the U.S.
American flags fly over the jetways/gates from which the four hijacked planes departed on 9/11. There are no plaques or memorial markers, just the flag flying over the jetway in remembrance of the pax and crews of those flights.
    BOS - AA flight 11- gate B-32
BOS - UA flight 175 - gate C-19 (It should be noted that UA moved to Terminal B in 2014 and raised a flag at gate B27, however B6, who took over UA’s gates, chose to keep a flag flying at gate C19 - aviation family.
    IAD - AA flight 77- gate D26
    EWR - UA flight 93 – gate A17

    Default Remembering 9/11 - 20 Years Later

I remember a breaking news bulletin about a “small plane” crashing into the World Trade Center, switching to CNN and thinking …that’s an awfully big hole for a small aircraft and then watching the second plane hit the other tower on live TV.

I remember hearing the first reports about hijacked planes, cross-country flights and a… AA plane out of Boston.

I remember the clear blue sky, the quiet, the sadness and the ocean.
And I remember the flags……the flags flying everywhere

Please share some of your own memories of 9/11

    Default History Changes Us

What do I remember about September 11th? Bits and pieces of lots of things but I'm not sure how accurate my recollections are from 20 years ago. There is one thing that is burned into my memory of that day that doesn't dim with time. It was the video of a man jumping to his death from one of the Towers. I wondered then and still do today about that man and all those who jumped from 100 stories up rather than face what was to come if they remained in what was left of the building.

When I think back to that day, I know what I was doing, where I was and seeing the second plane hit on television. The impact of what we witnessed that day will fade as time goes on and as history has shown us, we all move on. And even though we say that we will never forget, our recollections may be distorted and the bits and pieces that we do remember become foggy and muddled.

Let us hope that the horrors of that day will be remembered as not only a catastrophe that changed America forever but as a time when as Americans, we all bonded over the immenseness of the tragedy and heartbreak of the lives lost and looked deep inside of ourselves to embrace life and our fellow man.
