    Default Connecting through ICN

    Vietnam is open again.

I want to fly to ICN on my United pass (I'm retired). From there, I want to use a ZED ticket on Asiana for my flight to SGN.

Can I make an interline connection over ICN as a nonrev?

Will I be able to claim by bag and recheck it or is it carry on only?

Welcome to the Forum skies Vernalg, I see you finally made that first post leap. The Forum has both a ZED correspondent and a member that has traveled to Vietnam, a couple of times. I’ll send up some flares, hopefully one or both are looking up. In the meantime, you might enjoy reading two of T3Lee’s Trip Reports (great photos).

Hi, from what I read ZED travelers are permitted one free checked bag within the size/weight limitations of the transporting airline. You will have to recheck it it means going through Korean custom and immigration. As far as the health requirements due to covid you might need to check with some official pages https://www.airport.kr/ap_cnt/en/svc...cal/medical.do It seems that now we need a visa https://www.koreaonlinevisa.com/visa...nts/americans/ You might also want to read that https://www.koreaonlinevisa.com/travel-restrictions/ it talk about transit. As a rule of thumb because we travel on standby it is assumed we are going to stop in the connecting country. One thing clear to me is the bag rules. You might want to look in detail at the rules and regulations about Korea. Enjoy your trip

Hi Vernalg and thanks to Mig for the flare.

Firstly, I am afraid I have never been to or through ICN, so cannot comment on ICN specifically.

As Zedman points out, when travelling as a non rev, you cannot interline your bag like normal revenue passengers. If you were connecting between two flights on same airline, it is sometimes possible, but there are a lot of 'if's and 'but's, and I expect that company rules will usually say (somewhere) that it is not allowed.

Although a bit off topic, just in case you not aware - both South Korea and Vietnam experiencing phenomenally high number of covid cases at the moment. Perhaps you are planning a trip for much later in the year, when this South East Asia wave has subsided, but if not, please be aware.

    Good luck
    Lee
