Working in the airline industry, I’ve noticed that our family is not alone in our fascination and love for all things pertaining to flight. If this is the case for your brood, Seattle is a must-do trip. The Boeing Factory (located just north of Seattle in Everett, WA) was the main impetus for our visit to the area, but we quickly found that the Seattle area had much more to offer. On the recommendation of a colleague, we booked a room at the Holiday Inn in Everett (wonderful accommodations at $75 per night), and headed off to Seattle.
Upon arrival at Sea-Tac Airport, we picked up an inexpensive rental car (you can book a compact for as little as $15 per day or a mini-van for $40 per day through nonrev.net). Our adventure began immediately when we passed the Boeing Museum of Flight just after leaving the airport, and decided to stop for the tour. The museum presents a fascinating, interactive history of flight that our entire family thoroughly enjoyed. This is where we purchased the Seattle City Pass, which not only included admission to the museum, but five other Seattle area attractions. The pass is $42 for adults, $ 29 for children under 13.
Over the next couple of action-packed days, we fell in love with Seattle. Using the city pass as our guide, we visited the Seattle Space Needle, with its breathtaking panoramic view of the area. A particular favorite for our children was the Seattle Aquarium, again an interactive experience that literally brings the ocean right into the exhibits. Unfortunately, we did not have enough time to visit all the attractions included in the City Pass (Seattle Woodland Zoo, Harbor cruise), but look forward to those on our next trip. Of course, no visit to Seattle would be complete without a fresh cup of Starbuck’s coffee as you meander through the famous Pike Place Market. Watch out for ‘low flying fish’!
Last but not least, our trip culminated with the incredible tour of the Boeing Factory in Everett, just north of Seattle. Entrance to the factory tour is a mere $5 for adults and $3 for children under 13. The tour gave us an up close and personal look at the assembly of a 747. WOW! It’s pretty awesome standing in the largest building in the world, watching the largest passenger plane in the world being built.
Our whole family agrees another trip to Seattle is a must-do
