Am I foolish to be flying on a buddy pass this week with a strike perhaps on its way? My plan is to go to Guatemala from Chicago, and return the 15th or 16th. thanks

I just can't see it coming to a strike. These guys have to know that a strike will most likely kill the company, then they won't have a job at all. They'd go from complaining about a reduction in pay and benefits (which a lot of us in the industry have had to endure, why should they be any different), to complaining that they have no company to pay them at all. I'm sorry, but I just can't imagine the union leaders would be that stupid, they'd be killing off their own membership numbers by killing the employer.
I agree, the pilots would be crazy to strike as it would truly bankrupt the company and if the company shuts down, can they find another job? Last time I checked the classified in my area I didn't see any ads for an airline pilot.
Yes they'd be crazy, but second most important (after all delta employees and families) is myself on standby. Do you think there will be a frenzy of people flying, to use their tickets before the 15/16th? Is that a pattern? I need to get home from GUA on one of those dates. Muchas gracias.
I will throw my 2 cents by stating that I heard that if the strike were to last more than 3 days. Its GOODBYE to DL. On the non-rev side of things, non-reving would be very difficult for any airline employee to non-rev even on their own respective airline. For non-rev passengers flying on a DL guest pass, if Delta were to strike, no other airline will allow you to non-rev on DL guess passes. The buttom line, you will be on your own. My guess is that if DL pilots were to strike. It would be within a few days before or after Easter. When employees are threatening to strike, they try to schedule work stoppages and CHAOS around a busy travel time. With so many passengers traveling on spring break this is the time to do it. DL will be busy reaccommodating DL paxs on other airlines. Furthermore, with most U.S. based airlines have reduced or limited capacity growth on U.S. domestic routes in order to have higher yields. So I imagine most airlines will not add any extra flights with the exception of a few highly concentrated/profitable DL markets. The airline I work for is experiencing very strong booking where Delta has a strong presence. This is very typical when airlines are faced with a possible strike. Passengers get the "Fear Factor" and avoid the airline until labor disbutes are settled.
