This is my first big trip nonreving and we are choosing to go over winter break. What are good days to fly to Hawaii? any specific routes or airline that you recommend? Is this really a good idea or am i in for disaster? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi lynner,

Welcome! If you'll do a search for "hawaii" you'll find a lot of existing information on this topic.

By winter break, I assume you mean Christmas time frame? If so, you might want to rethink your travel plans. Hawaii during Christmas break is difficult to nonrev on a good day.

Trust me - the only way you're going to get back is to buy a full fare -

Interesting what you all say. 3 years ago I did a CVG-HNL-CVG trip. We left CVG on the 22nd of December and took the redeye back on the 23rd of December. Made it up front both ways...

The best time to non-rev over Winterbreak, and I've done it many times, is on Christmas day.

I'm not surprised, there are always exceptions to the rule. But to quote Damon Runyon. "The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but that's the way to bet."

Christmas Day is one of the best days to fly--so is 9/11, Easter Sunday, etc.
That CVG/HNL was great but, alas, it is no more...service to Hawaii is so restrictive on Delta now.
