- The shooting suspect has been identified as 26-year-old Esteban Santiago who was reportedly wearing a Star Wars T-shirt and carrying a military ID. He was publicly identified by U.S. Senator Bill Nelson of Florida.
- Broward County Commissioner Chip LaMarca said the shooter was a passenger and checked the gun in his luggage. The gunman loaded the firearm in a bathroom after retrieving it at baggage claim, LaMarca said.
- The shooter lay on the floor “spread-eagle” and waited for police to apprehend him after running out of ammunition, witnesses said.
- The suspect was taken into custody without incident and is being interrogated by FBI agents and sheriff’s deputies, said Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel.
- Esteban Santiago was reportedly born in New Jersey in 1990 and had been living in Alaska, according to public documents.
- Authorities say officers are conducting an active search of the airport after receiving unconfirmed reports of additional gunfire.
