Nice try faux_leopard, but a similar riddle was answered in a previous post in this thread---

4 Airplane A leaves from BOS to JFK. An hour later, airplane B, leaves JFK to BOS. The two planes are flying a direct route and going at exactly the same speed. Which airplane will be nearer to BOS when they meet?

c- none of the above, The're at the same place when they meet.

But keep trying, you may stump us yet.

Now for another math riddle for you.
This is pretty interesting so don't Google.

Beer Math
<UL TYPE=SQUARE>
1. Pick the number of times a week that you have a beer (or eat chocolate)
(try for more than one but less that 10....sorry Al)
2. Multiply this number by 2
3. Add 5
4. Multiply by 50 (I'll wait while you get a calculator)
*tapping fingers on desk*
5. If you've already had your birthday this year add 1755...if you haven't, add 1754.
6. Now subtract the four-digit year that you were born.
7. You should have a three-digit number.
The first digit of this was your orginal number (i.e., how many times you have a beer each week)

The next two number are.......

I always figured if they met nose to nose the plane that left paris would be closer since the tail end would be the distance of the plane closer to the city that the NY plane... but theres more than one way to solve just about every problem... =)

And thanks for showing the solution for the last math riddle... makes this one easy...

1. pick a number __________ X
2. mulitply by 2 __________ 2x
3. Add 5 __________________ 2x + 5
4. Multiply by 50 _________ (2x + 5)(50)
for simplification its really:
(100x + 250)
5. Birthday number addition 100x + 250 + 1754
(100x + 2004)
6. Subtract birth year ____ 100x + 2004 - 1986
(100x + 18 <---- current age)
7. any number times 100 is just itself with 2 zeros on the end... and since you add your age then the last two are you age

simple enough... I think =D

Nicely done
BTW, the plane riddle is a word riddle not a math riddle, that's why you had the problem- all that "traveling at 400mph and second plane traveling at 500mph" is smoke and mirrors. the solution is in the word (meet)
Just like this classic:
<UL TYPE=SQUARE>
As I was going to Saint Ives,
I crossed the path of seven wives.
Every wife had seven sacks,
Every sack had seven cats,
Every cat had seven kittens,
Kittens, cats, sacks, wives,
How many were going to Saint Ives?
Be careful now

Ok.... I like this one:

The object is to increase your chance of living greater than 50:50.

You are a mute prisoner sentenced to death. Your only chance at freedom comes from the blind-folded executioner picking from 50 white and 50 black balls. You apparently were captured by a pretty humored individual. But we all know you are smarter than they are =)

The night before you are given a box of 50 white and a box of 50 black. You can mix them up however you like. But if the executioner picks a black ball you will die and if he picks a white one you will live. How do you give youself a better chance of survival?

So long as you do not remove any balls, alter the balls in any way (coloring them or squishing them etc...) the executioner will hold up his end of the deal and make it a completly random drawing with no peeking.

Have fun!

Interesting predicament I've gotten myself into. Lets see, I would put one white ball in box 1, giving me 100% survival if the executioner picks that box, then I'd add the remaining 49 white balls to the 50 black balls in box 2, which would give me at least a fighting chance at surviving if the executioner draws from that box; which I believe now gives me a better than 50/50 chance of walking out of there alive.
BTW, I was innocent!

Very good, I remember it working out to be like just under a 75% chance of a living...

1/2 for box selection and then to account for black vs white in the other box its 49/99... so total 74.8% I believe... could be wrong its been a while for that one =)

Time for another math riddle.

A bank customer had $100 in his account.
He then made six withdrawals, totaling $100.
He kept a record of these withdrawals and the balance remaining in the account, as follows:
<UL TYPE=SQUARE>
Withdrawals---- Balance left
$50--------- $50
$25--------- $25
$10--------- $15
$8---------- $7
$5---------- $2
$2---------- $0
----------------------------
$100------ $99
Sooooo, why are the totals not exactly right?

Be careful now, things are not always what they seem.

Why does the balance left each time have to add up to $100? Obviously, all of the withdrawal amounts have to, since that is all he has.

If he took out 6 withdrawals of $1 each, he'd be left with $94, but the balance left would be $99, $98, $97, $96, $95, and $94, which together add up to $579.
