Cut and pasted from the "upgrade" thread...

I'm with you on the dress issue, imonred32!
DL dropped their dress code for employee travel and it was a big msitake to allow us to "dress like pax"!
Sadly enough, the biz class pax do look awful on the overseas flights I've taken, but the biz class domestic travel is still business clothing. Strange result, eh? Our dom emp travel dress stinks! Anything allowed but torn, soiled, obscene or PJs. Hope that some of the "class" of better dress code from NW will carry over with the merger. I like knowing I can wear nice jeans and decent shoes, but we don't have to actually take an entire outfit just for the air portion of a long trip. There has to be a sensible solution which limits how much leeway to allow on a dress code.
I guess I could have started a sep thread and gotten some really interesting opinions...hey--think I will!
    ANd I did!!

    M767, Red32, I'm with you
Whatever happened to passengers dressing up to fly? Nowadays, it's roll out of bed and head for the terminal. Trust me, I've seen travel outfits that would make Brittney Spears blush. Sometimes I think there should be a dress code for passengers. I suppose I'm old skool, but even with the "relaxed" dress codes, I dress business casual for my flights, which means, I usually "stand out" in coach.
It's a different time. You know it wasn't that long ago that agents would routinely upgrade "deadheading crew" or an FA would "upgrade" a non-rev during a flight. Oh yeah I can remember, years ago, on a red eye to BOS, a FA came back and asked if we wanted to stretch out in first; definately a different time.

... I too remember those times
What's worse, I can recall when our dress policy included a shirt and tie, 10 hours LHR-SFO in coach - stand out? You bet !
The shirt was ready for the trash by the time I reached SFO !

I agree with the tie being excessive these days. I don't mind wearing a nice short sleeve shirt with a collar and some comfortable khaki's when I fly business class. Not too dressed up but not like a slob either.

I am also with all of you.

I still dress in at least business casual. I often will even wear a suit and tie still. I think it was good to relax the dress code a little but it did go a bit far.

I can remember about 15 years ago, going to PVR in July when it was 100 degrees with 100% humidity. Everyone on the plane was in shorts and t-shirts and I was in a suit and tie. But no, nobody could tell who the nonrev was! Yeah, right! So much for keeping my nonrev status low key.

Yes, I remember insisting that the whole family dressed smart when travelling non-rev. Even my two sons, aged 7 and 9 or thereabouts had to wear ties. I guess we REALLY stood out as hopeful non-revs. Still, it did the trick, and at least if economy was full there'd be no problem being upped to J or F.

I can remember travelling back and forth to Florida from ORD, dressed in nice slacks, dress shirt, coat and tie and I would be the only person within a 100 mile radius that was dressed like that......and we weren't supposed to advertise to the paying pax that we were non-revs. THEY KNEW, just as surely as if we were wearing our uniforms.
