I'm excited for you, I've read peices of your saga from time to time, glad you finally made it.

I lost my job with AA in January, and even before that had been thinking of getting out, my station just wasn't a good fit for me, and it brought out the worst in me. I have missed it so much though, I absolutely love the airlines and now I'm trying to get back on again somewhere else. I'm glad your persistance paid off and I hope you continue to enjoy the industry.
Congrats Brian. My father-in-law works the ramp in SLC. He started with Skywest until Delta decided to man the ramp themselves. He had about a year off and then Delta called him in a few months ago and now he works for Delta. I love being in the airline business. I posted in my job transition process today that I have an interview with Delta on Monday. Can't wait to get back up in the air again. Me and my wife have been talking about trips to Hawaii and Europe, that we will take in the near future after my benefits start.
I usually never have a problem with Hawaii. My Dad's family all lives there so I have plenty of places to stay. If I get stuck it is no problem staying with someone. I usually plan my trips around loads, not when I want to go though. And I have done a turnaround plenty of times too. Fly out in the morning, spend a couple of hours there, pack a cooler full of food, and take the red eye home. As long as I get business I can get a decent nights sleep.
I never did mention in this thread (I know I did elsewhere, though) but I did get furloughed from the airport due to a reduction in flights (3 commercial flights daily to 2 for the entire airport... we're so tiny :P )
Anyway, I was done in early April. Wasn't so bad, since I did have a lot of fun and some relaxation for a change. A couple weeks ago, I got a call from my station manager. One of our full timers is no longer working there, so they needed 2 part-timers to return to take his place. I was #3 on the list, but one person passed, so I've got my first shift back in 7 hours! Should probably get some sleep...
Oh yeah, and this is 12-14 hours on top of a 40-hour/week internship and some delivery stuff occasionally. I estimate that I'll be averaging almost 60 hours a week. But at least I'll be getting some money, too
So who do you work for? Skywest? United? Delta?
I work for SkyWest, but we fly regional flights for United, Delta, Alaska, and AirTran for a little longer - they'll be ending that by early September with the Southwest merger. There are also quite a few flights out of IAH now, which I believe are considered CO flights (we use your system to list for them). Because I work the United Express flights, I only get benefits on United and all those other guys IF they're operated by SkyWest. It's a shame I don't work DL flights instead, since all SkyWest employees get UA benefits while we only get bennies on other airlines if we're dedicated to those operations.
That's great to hear. I was never furloughed(knock on wood), but I was cut to part time a few years ago. Hopefully everything works out for you. I hope you don't get burned out(because I have been there) but if you can consistently put in 60-90 hour weeks, you can pretty much double your experience. At this point I've only been in aviation a few years, but I've gained invaluable experience by really putting in some hours.
At the same time, don't lose your personal life
Now get nonrevin'
