    Question trip to london

    Good Day!

This is my first non rev trip to london. I am leaving the week after the 4th of july and returning on the 12th. I just wanted to know what is the best and most inexpensive airline to fly out to/from london? I work for southwest so i can fly to wherever airport i need to go to fly out to london. Also..is it easier to fly into gatwick than it is to heathrow? I heard that heathrow is a mess. thanks!

Not sure what your agreements are but zed is usually the best, then add $150+ in fees/taxes
    what's your preferred gateway?
DL has the new upgraded premium economy but it's new and I don't know if its avail for zed holders (?)

LHR is much better than LGW!!
A cheap way? Avoid the UK.
They have the highest departure taxes of any place in Europe.

I love London, it's a fantastic city- yes it is pricy all around but definitely worth it. Anyhow, LHR is more convenient as it is closest to the city and you can take the tube. LGW has coach service and regional train service as well as the Gatwick Express (terribly overpriced), but the tube does not make it to LGW (at least not that I am aware of).
As a side note RDU-LHR on AA I have heard is kind of easy to make as a nonrev as the route exist mostly due to heavy subsidies from Smithkline Beecham, then again this is the summer so basically most flights to Europe from the US go full or close to full. I know our CLT-LGW flight at least in the summer usually goes full or close to it.

    Regards,

Welcome aboard Paul, there’s one flight a day RDU/LHR (AA) a 767, at this distance travel around the 4th looks good. Of course I’m assuming you really didn’t mean

That would have you leaving before you got there.

    Paul,
Best way to minimise the taxes is to depart from Gatwick rather than Heathrow as the airport tax is GBP 20 cheaper at LGW rather than LHR. As mentioned above its easier to arrive into LHR and hop on the underground to get into Central London ( depending where you are staying ). Best bet is to pick up an Oyster card at the LHR underground station. You will pay a GBP 5 deposit on the card but you get it back if you hand the card in when you've finished with it ( see www.tfl.gov.uk/oyster ). Using the Oyster cards means that you always get the best deal when using any the underground or buses and will never work out costing more than the individual one day travelcards. You can top the Oyster card up with cash or credit card at many shops and also at virtually every underground station. Don't use the Heathrow Express as its very pricey and only gets you to the outskirts of London.
