Well, did this stir up some conversation. This is what I say. You have got to be absolutely NUTS to want to go to MARS on a one way mission.
1. No return to earth. Must be willing to live out your life on Mars which means you are probably going to die within a year, maybe 5.
2. People on earth are going to make lots of money on the first four suckers/victims/malcontents, via reality tv shows. They will make millions watching you struggle in Mars to stay alive.
Maybe even get a great chance to watch you die.
3. Sounds like a mission, with lots of work. NO PAY? How about a mission to Mars to attempt to colonize it on a three year tour of duty, (Including the travel time of total 14 months. 7 months going and 7 coming.) with a return to earth with compensation? Many made millions watching for you to die in Mars and coming back should make you quite lucrative or at least have the chance to spend your hard earned earnings and newfound celebrity status right?
4. The boredom alone will drive you insane or lead you to suicide. Picture being in cold Mars, with nothing there. Sure its beautiful and interesting, but for how long? The effect of your newfound home will eventually wear off and you are suddenly in hell. You will never feel a breeze ever again, you will never feel the sun hit your face that isn't going through a glass, you will never breath fresh oxygen that isn't artificially produced, you will weigh less and your body and bones will degenerate unless you work out those muscles EVERY DAY. You will never see a living organism, no tree, no flower no nothing. Ok, maybe it will be done artificially but all of it will have to be.
29 Palms advice on how to colonize Mars. Gonna have to pay smart educated ones to go a few steps at a time with compensation and incentives. Also must have RETURN capabilities. What's this NEVER return BS??? Right there, you know that they won't care about you and that supply ship may never reach you due to life events such as politics, wars, economics, or other uncrontrollable global problems. Miss a supply run, to Mars, and your colony is DONE! CAPUT! No factories in Mars, no technology to be self supportive. That in itself is very far off. We have yet to develop cheaper and faster ways to travel before we hit that stage.
