    Cool $20 ice cream cones

$20 ice cream cones and other ridiculous charges.

British Tourists angry when charged 64 euro/$84 for four ice cream cones.
Yup they paid $20 for an ice cream cone which they took away, because sitting down would have meant an additional charge.

British tourists' complaint over £54 ice cream hits a nerve in Rome - Telegraph

So what’s the most ridiculous amount of money you’ve paid for “something” while on vacation?

Ok, first let me say the front desk did mention this at check in, plus I know better, but sometimes one just …………forgets. I’m in my hotel room, relaxing, watching TV and get a taste for something sweet. I see the box of M& M’s on the mini bar and…… AWWW senor control- you move it, you bought it.
$9 M&Ms, an yes they still do melt in your mouth not in your hand.
I didn’t touch the $5 Fiji bottled water.

Best I can think of is when I first arrived in SVQ for a semester of studying, the taxi driver ripped me off for an extra 15 euros. I was too tired and taking everything else in that I didn't really realize how bad it actually was with the exchange. I'm pretty sure I still remember the license plate of that asshole 3 and a half years later, too. Pardon my French. Sadly, I didn't ask for a receipt to dispute it later on.

Oh, and a scam to be aware of: My coworker was in Beijing (I think it was... somewhere in China for sure) with his girlfriend. In one of the touristy areas, a chinese girl, probably around 19, asks if she can talk to them to practice her English. Very nice, very charming girl. Then she asks if they'd like to join her for tea. They go to a shop, which is nice, but not very busy. At all. They start the tea service, which is very nice but very price-invisible. They ask how much it costs, they keep saying not to worry about it. Then the bill comes. $200. I think he was able to talk them down to $50, but still, that's pretty high. Bottom line, if you get someone asking you to join them for tea in China, don't. They had others try the same as well later in their trip.

I just looked at the minibar menu here in BKK......even a condom, to the tune of 100 Baht! I succumbed to the snack mix and a Kit Kat for 80 baht each tho. Which is 2.73 USD. Woah....

check out the Pringle's at the 7/11--wacky flavors. Lots cheaper than 80THB. First unusual vending machine I encountered was at NRT hotel--ladies panties, condoms, whiskey minis and beers.
If you're by Siam Sq and too hot, slip down to lower level Paragon Mall and check out the food court.

I was on SPN when I wanted to buy a pack of gum, lady at the SPN airport, wanted 5 bucks. NO THANKS. Funny thing about that is I was actually reaching for my pocket and when I asked again how much it cost and she said 5 dollars, I just said NO THANKS.
