    Cool Vintage Airline Posters

Ah, memories, so many airlines gone

Vintage airline posters that promised glamorous holidays to London, Hawaii and Haiti | Daily Mail Online

Do you remember your first airplane flight?

My first flight was on - wait for it - American. What I remember most is they served dinner and I liked the hum of the engines - still do.

Funny, I still haven't flown on AA in my life! I did buy a ticket once, but it was a refundable one in case I missed a flight after coming out of customs. Note to self, never buy separate tickets again (studied in Spain, MSP-ORD-MSP on one ticket, ORD-LHR-MAD-SVQ-MAD-LHR-ORD on another). And my first flight was ATA on a DC-10. When my dad bought our tickets, it was supposed to be MSP-HNL-MSP, all nonstops. Long story short, it ended up being scheduled MSP-OAK-OGG-HNL-OAK-MSP.

Anyway, posters! They were getting rid of a few posters at work, and I was able to get my hands on one or two more. Now I have posters for Chicago, Denver, Hong Kong, Ho Chi Minh City, Nagoya, Shanghai, Buenos Aires, Zurich, and Sao Paulo. All on United, all drawn by Tim Zeltner. There are a few of them on this page here: All Products :: Airline Poster Art - The Airline Poster Art Collection (look for the ones from around 2004). They do look pretty darn good around the house!

I was so young that I don't even remember my first flight. We have some really cool vintage Alaska Airlines posters from the 60's/70's that the company used to give away to anyone for the asking.

Huh, wouldn't you know it. United has been doing a lot of fundraising over the past 6 weeks for March of Dimes, including a silent auction on some memorabilia. About 20 posters are up for auction. A few of them I already have, but there were a few I've had my eyes on for a while that are now up for auction. One for Europe, another for Hawaii. We'll see if anyone really wants to outbid me! Thankfully I already have the one I really want and is likely to sell for big money (Denver).
