    Lightbulb Champagne VS Sparkling Wine

If a restaurant advertises a "Champagne Bunch", do you expect champagne to be served? What if the restaurant's "champagne" is sparkling wine, would you feel disappointed, let down, tricked?

That basically is the class action complaint against Sunwing Airlines. Sunwing advertised "Champagne Service" which included a "complimentary on-board champagne toast". But instead of champagne, pax Daniel Macduff was served a "cheaper bubbly". Mr. Macduff was let down to say the least and filed a class action suit that alleges "misleading marketing" and demanding compensation for the difference in the wines prices. Sunwing for their part believe the lawsuit to be "frivolous and without merit".

So, the question is...Is it "champagne service" if it's sparking wine in a cup?

I wouldn't think to sue but it is a pet peeve of mine when anything other than Champagne from the Champagne region of France is passed off as such. There must be some merit to the lawsuit as Sunwing no longer calls it champagne service.

It depends where you're flying, or the airline base. The US is one of very few countries who declined to sign a treaty regarding the usage of "champagne" on labels for bubbly produced here. The "champagne" name is a domain. Most (maybe all) Eu nations have their own names: Sekt (CZ), Cava (SP), Espumante, etc. This is why we have "Cook's Champagne" (cheap, but good enough for casual quaffing)...

Exactly. Cooks, Andre and Korbel California champagnes, proudly served at champagne toasts/bunches since 1833.

OOH--sounds like kind of place! Time to take the Boss.
My niece and I had an afternoon hour or two in the back of a vineyard under a huge tree with corks hanging on every branch! Of course, it was bubbly, since were in Bordeaux, at St. Emillion.
