You gotta love JetBlue's response to Spirit's announced carry-on fees.

    BlueTales » JetBlue

"In case you were wondering, JetBlue will continue to offer a free first checked bag, not to mention that you can bring your Mickey Mouse ears, your magazine collection, your favorite wrinkle-free slacks, and your lunch onboard, and enjoy free use of the overhead bins and more legroom than any other airline in its class."

and you have to check out the new "Extrago Sherpa Shirt" for travel - lots of pockets.

I see the orginal concept as a marketing ploy--get more potential pax to pay the membership fee up front for the $9 club (whether they buy a tkt or not)
They get super cheap fares (WHEN avail) and lower carry-on bag fees. I think the rest of the industry (and the media and general public) made it out as a gouging effort. Nothing is FREE, period.
