I don't recommend anyone wanting to go to Buenos Aires to go via Brazil unless they want to visit Brazil. The connections out of Sao Paulo with VARIG is pretty good, but the problem is that BRAZIL charges you 100 dollars per visa when you transit Brazil as a standby passenger. To avoid this fee, you may be better off going offline with AMERICAN AIRLINES out of MIAMI straight flight to Buenos Aires. Also, the gate agents seemed a bit unorganized and speak little English or Spanish, so for those that don't speak Portuguese or at least Spanish, you may be somewhat lost. (Spanish is close to Portuguese language and somewhat understandable.) We didn't think we would make it out with all the commotion. People cutting in the ticket counter and trying to find out answers that the agents couldn't answer. One guy told me the flights were full to Buenos Aires, and at the last minute, some lady that seemed to know what she was doing saved the day. SHE SAID THERE WERE SEATS and to run over to gate 20. That flight had alot of empty seats. This other agent almost screwed us. If I hadn't jumped up and ask the lady, as a last resort, we would have missed that particular flight. My suggestion is to bypass Brazil, and the fee unless you plan to visit Brazil.

It was not a special visa by any means. It was a regular visa. I got it here in Houston before I left.
