I was thinking. We all like to go check out countries but how about seeing who can check out some place hardly anyone goes to or has heard about. For starters, I would like to one day visit LOS COCOS islands in Costa Rica. GALAPAGOS would be interesting too. The idea is that these places can be rough getting to. You cannot fly into LOS COCOS off of COSTA RICA. You can fly into the Galapagos via GUAYAQIL, but that effort would be awesome. I was on two islands I doubt any of you have been to because, for starters, you had to be either military, or military contractor to get to. Like IWO JIMA and DIEGO GARCIA. Anyone can fly into PANAMA CITY, but how about going out to DAVID or VOLCAN, BOQUETE or PUERTO ARMUELES. How about CONTADORA ISLAND or the SAN BLAS ISLANDS? Get my drift? Anyone can get to CANCUN but how about further into the YUCATAN like in MERIDA? Then UXMAL, or PROGRESSO? I'd like to hear about off the wall places or places that are hard to get to or visit. Ever gone to SOCORO ISLAND? In the REVILLAGIGEDOS? Everyone wants to go to PARIS or MADRID, but how about MALTA? How about the Italian island of SARDINIA. Man, I wanna hear about those backpackers that venture way in those kind of places. To make a long story short. If I see pictures of LOS COCOS with a story on how they got there, in my eyes, they have really accomplished something. Anyone can post pictures of MIAMI or PARIS, but try getting to a place like COCOS islands.

Everyone wants to go to Paris? Nay, not so. I do not want to go to Paris, Lyons, Marseilles, Chamberay Les Deux Eglises or anywhere else in that benighted country. Madrid, I'll give you.

Oh oh...Are you one of those that quit buying FRENCH FRIES or FRENCH WINE? Must be watching too much of that FOX channel.

A little late perhaps, but how are these places for bragging rights:

Lunana
Karakoram
Pitcairn
Fatu Hiva
Ngatokae
Pico de Neblina
The Namib
Bwindi
Okavango

oh yes, and Malta.

Of course I didn't exactly non-rev to those places

Very cool. I love to hear about places off the beaten path. When I get the blogs installed do you think I can talk you into writing some trip reports about some of them? Do you have any photos?

Yes, I agree, those sound like pretty off the beaten path especially Pitcairn island where the "Mutiny on the Bounty" relatives of Christian live to this day. Malta struck a cord. I never set foot on Malta but we passed by it on a ship coming from the Persian Gulf. It was night time, lots of lights when I asked the Merchant on watch where we were, he said MALTA, about right on the nose according to my map and timing. Some helacious battle happened there during the CRUSADES against the Turks. Very good HSSP.

We also have no desire to ever return to France, it seems they forgot who helped them in WWII!
