I was reading that apparantly, you can fly to Easter Island with LAN out of Lima Peru. I can't speak for nonrev travel to Easter Island, however, I did fly to Cuzco nonrev from Lima which was quite a non-dramatic event. I would think its worth the shot.
SCL is also an option, that ebing said LIM should be easier.

Lima is not a bad place to hang out either. Interesting place.
Thank you all! I will give it a shot. I am going to fly out of Lima to Easter Island and hopefully return through Santiago. I will post later about the experience.
We made it to Easter Island without any problems from Lima, I guess that route is not as popular yet. Coming back to Santiago, we were told the flight was pretty good but next day when we got to airport the flight was full. Luckily we were able to get the last 3 seats on plane. I guess you can never tell out of Easter Island, people buy tickets at the last minute and LAN will not upgrade to first. If they are out of economy seats you are going to wait for the next flight. The island is wonderful, a little expensive but worth the visit. We were told by the local that it was very low season and not many tourists around, so I can imagine in the summer it is going to be a lot harder to get there stand-by. I hope this info was useful to anyone that is planning on going there. Also rent a car and avoid the tours, you can do it by yourself with a good book about Easter Island. On arrival make sure you purchase the ticket to enter the parks at the airport, it will save you about $10.00 per person.
Dynamite. That's the first person I hear of visiting Easter Island first hand. That's a getaway and a half! I'll mark that one down in my cool travels honors list. Can you tell me more about those huge monoliths? I was on the Marianas, and those LATTE stones were supposedly older than any stones made like those on Easter Island. Naturally because Marianas Islands are closer to Asia and boat people made it there first. But Latte stones didn't have HATS, noses nor eyes on them.
I saw a show on Easter Island, and its hard to believe that this island actually had a forest with lots of trees. Pretty barren eh? Apparantly, they chopped all the trees down, to the point that there was no more growth, nor food, had to resort to cannibalism. They even outfished the surrounding area, and who knows what else? Coral reefs had fungi to where it died supporting no life??? What looks cool in the tv about Easter Island is the waves pounding the rocky coastline. Reminds me of my days out on the islands.
Gotta hit the galapagos next.
