Default Americans Won't Need Visas to Visit Brazil This Summer

Americans Won't Need Visas to Visit Brazil This Summer - Condé Nast Traveler

The no visa period runs from Jun 1 - Sep 18. Also exempt are Canadians, Japanese and Australians.

I've wanted to visit Brazil but didn't want to deal with the hassle of getting a visa. I think for this summer, I might consider going.

    There is a hassle?
We dropped off our passports at the consulate, and had them back with visas in 3 days.
We have been 4 times in 2 years and love it there!
    Have fun!

From what I've been told, the NYC consulate can take 2-3 weeks to process a visa which doesn't include the 2 weeks just to get an appointment. No mail in applications accepted. Walk ins are limited to the first 20 people per day and lines start forming at 4:00 AM until they open at 10 AM. I tried contacting consulates in other cities to see if they would accept mail in applications and they all said no, you have to use the consulate that covers the area you live. If it was as simple as getting it in 3 days, I would've done it a long time ago.

Oh I see. That makes sense. Mine was in Chicago and it was super easy. Too bad all of them are not that way.

Same thing here in LA, must apply in person and must have an appointment.

In additional appointments can only be scheduled through the consulate website, no phone or e-mail. At the moment the appt calendar is showing nothing available for the next month.

True that. I don't see why if we (with non rev privileges) have the ability or are willing to travel to a more convenient (easier) location why they can't just process the visa there. After all, as long as they get paid anyway, who cares! That said, the waiving of the visa requirement is definitely welcome and something I hope they consider extending.
