Default Argentine Trip Report in Parts

    Part I
DL CVG/ATL: squeaked by using S2. Only nonrevs on but didn't want to risk LFO w/less than 2 hrs cnx.
Whew! On our way to BA w/oodles of empty seats in Biz. Dinner @ 11:30 is difficult. Ate main corse and not even dessert! Too tired. Slept hard and arrived w/plenty of time to take our rebooked taxi to municipal AEP for flt to Iguazu. After a few hours, very brief security ckpoint. Lots of places (as AR agent said). Our $32 zeds were great. In less than 2 hrs, we landed in IGR. Had transport to jungle lodge (shared--what a PITA) arrived moren than an hour after our flt. La Aldea de la Selva was quirky, rustic and charming...until we found some problems. Hot water problems, heater problems...We slept in 8 degree temp huddled in the center of a king bed. We spooned like survivors on Naked and Afraid! Wish we had a campfire!
Cold shower--NUH UH. Mgr said, he'd take that night off the bill (he didn't--we're still 'discussing' things).
    Nice dinner and wine.
We started walking from lodge to bus pickup when taxi stopped and offered to take us for a few pesos more than the bus price ($120/2) Sure. Off to the Falls and found out they only take pesos and we were short (ATMS only dispense so much). Again another ATM w/no funds, so Boss went into park and came back w/moolah, as the Rangers held me 'hostage'. Paid, took 2 trains, then walked to Devil's throat--biggest confluence--spectacular!!! Long walk on grid above river. About 1 mile! I ran out of steam so we passed on the next trail which was twice as long. W/out sleep, we did our best. But a good reason for me to return on chick trip to share w/the girls.

Our balcony jacuzzi never had enough water, so it was a total waste. Room was large but once we learned about the split AC/Heat unit, things got better. They have a pool and nice jungle trails but the unpleasant chill didn't help. This weekend is forecast to be warm--wouldn't you know?!
Our return to AEP was totally uneventful. We also had 3 seats w/no one else--nice treat. 37 seats open, agent said. She was right.

So, we're enjoying our fabulous 1928 French inspired Art Deco apt in BA. It is one very nice place--2BRs, lovingly restored w/magnificent Art Deco design furniture and very well-equipped in every aspect. All for $140/nt. Highly recommend it. 1 1/2 baths, brass queen and double beds, good closets, kitchen, LR and 3 French balconies over the street, 5 floors down. Only 2 blks to cemetery and 4-5 blks to everything you need for supermercado, wine, bus, taxi, subway, etc. Great pizza place w/sidewalk service. Every millennial was eating or drinking last nite (Fri).
I think today holds a relaxing trip to cemetery, Evita museum (a must in our plans), local feria/mercado then Japanese Gardens and light lunch.
We only have 3 nts so we'll make the most of them. Signing off for now. End Part I

Great trip report! How did you find the apt? What neighborhood? Glad to hear everything worked out on AR. El Mirasol is one of many favorite steak places. Especially love the El Mirasol sundae - ice cream, hot fudge, dulce de leche - yum! We usually go to the Recova location but there is one by Puerto madero. First time we went we ordered 2 steaks, not realizing one steak is more than enough for 2 people. We couldn't figure out why our waiter had a big grin when we ordered until he brought out the gargantious sized hunks of meat. The filet mignon kababs for lunch there are good too. Anyway, enjoy your stay and have a safe trip back!

Recoleta. 1 block from cemetery. We can see it from the street when we leave our bldg. Found the property on Homeaway.com. # 3548991. Alternative property: # 3658483
There is a local fair/market 4 blocks down from apt.
Bldg has old cage elevator and series of odd keys due to original hardware. This apt ooooozes charm and elegance. Lovingly restored and furnished beautifully. 2 large chandeliers, vintage sconces, impeccable decor. Nice prop mgr, too. They offer driver same prices as regular taxis to/from EZE w/personal service. Washer/dryer, dishwasher, shower w/seat. Very NICE!

    Part II
Not always the best day when your insides are going thru heebie jeebies. Good night's sleep on great bed. Hot shower helps a lot. With no particular goals except some of the ones from yesterday, it's pretty easy to not do anything. So, this is what retirement is like? Hmmmm; not bad!
The feria is open again today. The cemeterio is not going anywhere, and there will always be a steak to be had in this city!
I guess I'm on a mission to find out what is open in the neighborhood on Sunday-maybe a Carrefour Express? My extra brut has run dry. Need to do the recycle (funny--don't do that at home, anyway) but it's at the corner. A courtesy to the apt mgr.
Museo Evita is open until 7.

Our flt is not until 8 tomorrow, so apt is avail until 4pm for us--no immediate tenants. Need to. Contact Claudio, the driver. Better email him now and get back to not making any decisions for the day until necessary!
    Tchau.

    Part III
Kinda, sorta, I guess it's III.
No reply from driver (maybe old email address?) so I booked online with taxiezeiza.com.ar/eng with a promo rate of $480ARS ($33 US). Nice price for nearly 1 hr ride.
Backing up: of course, Carrefour was open. The fair was a bunch of expats and hippie 'artisans' who sell all the same crap--tie dye, 'silver' jewelry, varied small leather goods/belts, some kind of little ceramic pots (sauces or sugar?) and incense sticks!!
Decided to scoot off to cemeterio and found out that entrance was waaaayyyy around the other way (where we stopped walking the stoopid feria and went back out). IF we'd just known...Wandered around the monuments and guess what? Evita is still dead (like Generalissimo Franco) and people still put flowers there. If you haven't seen the Madonna film version, please do so now. The Perons will remind you of a political couple whose female member is currently embroiled in a major election...So many parallels...the Che character could be reminiscent of, well, you can guess...
Went to a good steak place last night--La Cabrera. Not as great as we remembered but then some things just aren't. It was very good AND the wine was an amazing 2014 Malbec--full, rich and as a TV reporter pal once said, "like angels peeing on your tongue". Pretty sure that means awesome, but I prefer to use the verb 'dancing'.

When we eat that late (had to stay in apt long enough to stream Bengals and Lions--both winners, not wieners!) it comes with a price. I woke @ 9 and Boss is still asleep @10:30.
Got shower and pack, find something to explore today AND go home.
I don't understand the nonrevs here. Last night the list said 8/11 w/10+ listed. Only a few checked in for all those empty seats. Now our flt shows 22/3, 17 active DL, 7 aux emps+3 retirees AND some buddy passes--maybe 35 total! What gives?? They aren't even carry-over names!

I give up; we get on w/S3 or we blow them out of the water and switch to 2's the last minute. We can play the game...

Here's the simple link to the BA apt:

It was terrific for our purposes--location, amenities, etc. Highly recommended.
