Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly has indicated that the Dallas-based airline may be open to charging bag fees in the future as fliers become more accepting of the industrywide practice.
The Wall Street Journal reported that the head of the airline whose ad slogan is "Bags Fly Free," told an earnings conference call on Thursday that, while no plans are in place to charge a bag fee in the next year, it could be coming.
Kelly told those on the call that if travelers better understand and even prefer "an a la carte approach ... we'd be crazy not to provide our customers with what they want." That's a sign that Southwest's (NYSE: LUV) bag fee policy could change, the Journal said.
