Hi Nick. I've been a couple times now. If you don't mind spending lots of money, I always stay at the Sheraton CDG, which is built into the terminals and is up the escalator from the TGV and Metro rail lines. Two good benefits of staying there. Your view is the CDG ramp. The other is that when you are going to and returning from Le Bourget, the millions of people getting on the metro are going to and from Paris. To go back to the hotel, you are going opposite the flow of traffic. It's really expensive though. With my employee discount, I think the rooms are at 250 euro a night, so it's really expensive. Then again, they have a great buffet breakfast!

Nonreving isn't easy for this. I actually got a confirmed ticket for next year using some credit card FF miles. Flying Air France from Houston. But anyway, I have flown VS JFK-LHR then AF LHR CDG before to get there. Last time I flew CO EWR-BRS and bought a ticket on easyJet (like 50 bucks) BRS-CDG. FOr the return journey, the previous time, I got on a company plane (AA, and just squeezed into a business class CDG-BOS (probably the weakest loads for AA out of CDG)). Last time I flew BA to LHR and then caught a company vessel from LGW.

Also, this year I went to Farnborough and bought a deal on British Airways that included 2 night's hotel in Central London. So I seem to be wimping out and buying tickets as of late!

You have to be creative, but I've not missed Farnborough or Paris since 2005!

    Hey thanks for the info!

250 euro a night is quite expensive, but I like your thinking. I'll be traveling with 2-3 other people so as a split it might work, although was also considering apartments in Paris as we were thinking of hitting some trade days too.

My plan is to use my FOC, which won't get confirmed but has a good priority on standby anyways. So MEL-HKG then i should be able to get myself to LHR, AMS, CDG or FRA on the same ticket - whichever is more open. Might get a backup on AF though as they also have 2 flights a day HKG-CDG. (i always say i'm going to get these backups but never do!). After the week there i think i might try my luck on AF CDG-SXM or KL AMS-SXM as i've always wanted to go there. Then to get home from there.... no idea. Come back the long way through Europe, or jump up to JFK and back that way. Depends on if my FOC allows split routings which i need to find out.

    Have you been to SXM?

I haven't been to the SXM airport. I was there as a teen when on a couple of cruises. At the end of last August or beginning of Sept, I was in SJU on business and was going to spend the weekend in SXM and Tropical Storm Hannah closed in on SXM so I flew back to DFW and decided to hit SXM some other time. Oh well.

Oh I see. When i was working in the states I had a confirmed ticket FLL-SJU-SXM return, and planned to nonrev from DAL to FLL. Stupidly forgot it was a long weekend so was going to be near impossible to nonrev without "positioning" - overnighting in HOU the day before in order to get the nonstops to FLL. On an interns wage though this was something to be avoided.

The nail in the coffin was leaving it until the week of to find a hotel at SXM.... nothing i could find was under $400 that close in. So i cancelled and used the credit to fly to Michigan to visit friends instead
