Made our escape but the innkeeper insisted in saying goodbye to us! Jailer's Inn--highly recommend a few nts here. Upstairs dungeon room is quirky w/massive hand-hewn beams--used to be all 6 surfaces and no window. Cons were chained to giant iron rings on the floor in total darkness. Must have been delightful! Suggest not so off-season--many things closed except taverns and distilleries.
Easy town to explore. Started N KY and drove close to Lex, detouring to Woodford Reserve for great tour and place (it's small!), then on to BTown. In season, you can see/do plenty but retail, etc shutters @5pm. 5 distilleries in BTown; plenty more not far. Maker's Mark was also outstanding tour and much better bourbon--do not miss. You can dip your own red wax. MM 46 is outrageously delicious and mellow. MM doesn't use rye; so far, our fave. Never had any bacon <waaah>because KY Ham s THE thing here; not a fave but neither were the few restaurants that were open. Overpriced and greasy--better to drink and eat on the way out of town.
Museum was closed, too. Don't miss counting the Bathtub Mary's on the road to MM. bathtub mary's - Bing Images Supposedly the record counted is 20 but we only found 8. Not good to search while driving, BTW--so I let navigator do the job.
Drove back home a very different way (not MY choosing...) but so enjoyed the short vacation. Suggest you route thru Lousville at some point and check out some new Bourbon Trail options. You could easily take 4 nts and not see enough...Bye, Y'all!
